I saw him sitting on the other side of the seat, but I thought he was too private – he might get too angry – but I was trying to be brave, I went up to him and asked him ‘may I take a picture of you.’ he smiled and said ‘yes’, and I clicked several shots.

1981年にロンドンの地下鉄でジョー・ストラマーにばったり会った事がある。彼はThe Clashというバンドのボーカルだった。僕が座っている向かい側の座席に彼は座っていた。僕は彼はプライベートを大事にしていて、話しかけたら怒られてしまうのではと思っていた。しかし勇気を出して立ち上がって彼に近づいて行き尋ねた。「あなたの写真を撮って良いでしょうか？」 彼は微笑んで言った 「どうぞ」 そして私は数回シャッターを押した。

そして彼が下車する時に僕にこう言った。「君が撮りたいと思ったならそれが何だろうと撮るべきだ。それがパンクだ。」
